Why buy a felting hand tool anyway?

Felting hand tools make the fulling processing faster and easier and make the process much gentler on your hands than going without. They remove the need for a lot of the physical effort of the final stages of felting too. So save your hands and get more felting done by investing in a beautiful hand crafted tool.

They come in a range of sizes and shapes and are specifically designed for different purposes. If you are looking for a general purpose tool, I recommend the flat bottomed, broad-based hand tool. Other tools, with specific purposes, such as wedge-shaped, or rounded bottom ones are used for felting 3D objects such as urns and hats or narrow corners. There are rolling pin types for rolling on top of the wool, and spiked ones for getting into small spaces.

5- star rating. Prices range from $12 to $68 Canadian. There are only four felting tool products and are limited to rollers and a rubel only. The rubel is designed with making felted shoes in mind. The rollers are inexpensive and rubel is about $68. The wood looks untreated so the customer may need to treat the product with varnish or wood oil to keep it in good condition, this could be why the products are so cheap. Natali ships from the Ukraine and takes 2- 4 weeks delivery time. Shipping to Canada costs about $20.

8. Washboards on Amazon and Etsy

Bamboo washboard for wet felting and fulling the felt to thicken it
Plastic washboard for wet felting and fulling the felt to thicken it
Glass wash board for wet felting and fulling the wool

A full sized washboard can be a great tool for fulling your felt during the final stage of the wet felting process. While these aren’t hand tools to use during the pre-felting rubbing stage, they another great tool to have in the felting tool box. If you want to create thick robust felt this is the tool for you.

You can choose from a bamboo washboard, plastic washboard, or the classic glass washboard. These recommendations were selected for their material and dimensions, you want to make your not buying something too small and inefficient. I personally own a glass washboard and I love it, but it is heavier than the bamboo and plastic washboard options and far more fragile. If you go with a bamboo washboard be sure to thoroughly dry it out after each use so it doesn’t go moldy or become warped (like some bamboo cutting boards I’ve owned), storing it in a ventilated area is a good idea too.
